Christians believe God is the creator and source of everything. God is eternal, powerful, holy, good and personal. The Bible also says that God is love. This means love is part of who God is, not merely something he does when we behave well.
At The Lakes Church, we believe Jesus is the clearest picture of what God is really like. Jesus shows us that God welcomes outsiders, confronts injustice, forgives sin, heals broken lives and gives himself in love. When our ideas about God do not look much like Jesus, we need to look again.
Christians speak about one God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We call this the Trinity. God the Father loves and adopts us, Jesus the Son brings us back into relationship with God, and the Holy Spirit is God’s presence with us.
We will never fit God neatly inside our understanding, but we can still know him personally. A good place to begin is with Jesus: read one of the Gospels, speak honestly to God in prayer, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognise what God is like.
