Does God exist?

Christians believe God exists and is the source and sustainer of everything. That belief cannot be reduced to one clever argument. It grows from a number of things taken together: the existence and order of the universe, our sense of meaning and moral responsibility, human experience, and most importantly for Christians, the person of Jesus.

Science helps us investigate how the world works. Questions about why there is a world at all, why it is intelligible, and what human life means reach beyond what a scientific experiment can measure. At The Lakes Church, we do not see honest science and Christian faith as enemies. They are asking different questions about the same reality.

Many people also recognise signs of God in quieter ways: beauty in creation, a persistent thought, an unexpected conversation, a prayer, a dream, a passage of Scripture, or a sense that they are being drawn towards something more. None of these experiences should be forced into proof. They can be invitations to pay attention.

If you are unsure, you do not have to pretend certainty. Try a simple prayer such as, ‘God, if you are there, help me recognise you.’ Then take a careful look at Jesus. Christians believe God has made himself known most clearly in him.
