Serving

WHY SERVE?

God has a place for you here, to be part of what he is doing through our church to impact the world. Joining a team and serving is one of the most important things you’ll do as part of The Lakes Church.

When you serve you’ll be part of our whole family working together, you’ll find a place for your own faith to grow, and together we’ll make a difference.

Spend some time reading through this page exploring the various opportunities to serve. When you’re ready, you can follow this link to express your interest.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What training is provided?

We know that starting something new can be challenging! Don’t worry, we’ll pair you up with an experienced team member to help you learn the ropes for as long as you need. You’ll be given additional training in working with children and vulnerable people as part of the application process.

How often will I be rostered on?

Most of our teams are rostered on about once every 4 weeks, but you can be on more or less often if needed. There are opportunities to serve in the morning service, night service or both, depending on what suits you.

How long do I need to be part of the church before I can serve?

Joining a team is a great way to get to know people and help others! If you’re ready to get involved, our Hospitality and Facility Care teams are a great place to start.

For other teams we encourage you to settle in a while longer so we can get to know you better and give you time to learn more about the church (Connections and Community – 3 months, Generations and Worship – 6 months).

Do I need to be a Christian to serve?

We recognise that for some people, getting involved and helping out will be part of their journey to discover more about Jesus, even if they haven’t yet made a decision to follow him. If that’s true for you, we’d love to help you find a role in one of our Hospitality or Facility Care teams. Our other teams involve being able to share and answer questions about being a follower of Jesus. We’d love to help you take that step when you’re ready!

Can I serve if I’m under 18?

Yes, we love to see young people active and involved in their church! Most of our teams have roles suitable for high school aged youth to take on. We gather these leaders each term to celebrate and invest in the young people who are part of our teams. Let us know which team interests you and we’ll help you find a role!
