Is communion open to everyone?

At The Lakes Church, we practise open communion. Anyone who trusts Jesus and wants to remember and thank him is welcome to take the bread and juice. You do not need to be a church member, have a perfect record or pass a religious test.

Communion points us to grace. The bread and cup remind us of Jesus’ body and blood, his death on the cross and his resurrection. We come to receive and remember what Jesus has done, with no need to prove ourselves first.

Throughout history, Christians have understood who may receive communion in different ways. Some churches limit it to their members or to people who have been baptised or formally prepared. We respect those convictions. Our practice is to invite everyone who wants to remember and celebrate Jesus in this way.

Communion also gives us a chance to examine our lives, receive grace and take honest steps towards repairing damaged relationships. If you are not ready, you can let it pass without embarrassment. If you trust Jesus, even with questions and an unfinished life, you are welcome.
