Jesus is the centre of Christian faith. He was a first-century Jewish teacher who lived in the land we now call Israel. Christians believe he is the promised Messiah, the Son of God who came among us to show us what God is like and to bring us back into relationship with God.
At The Lakes Church, we keep returning to the accounts of Jesus in the Gospels. There we meet someone who teaches with authority, touches people that others avoid, heals with compassion, forgives sins and challenges religious hypocrisy. Jesus is the ultimate picture of what God is really like.
Jesus’ identity comes with an invitation. He did not ask people simply to admire him or agree with a set of ideas. He called them to follow him, learn his way of life and trust him with the whole of their lives, and with life after death. That is why Christianity is more than a religious label. It is life with Jesus.
If you are curious, a good place to begin is to read one of the Gospels in the New Testament, such as Mark or Luke, and ask two honest questions: Who does Jesus appear to be, and what might it mean for me to follow him? You do not need to have everything sorted before you start.
