What happens when we die?

Death is real, and the Bible never treats grief lightly. However Christians believe physical death is not the end because Jesus died and rose again. When a follower of Jesus dies, they are with him, held in the presence and love of God.

The Bible does not give us a detailed timeline of everything that happens next. It does give us a clear hope. Jesus will return, those who belong to him will be raised with new bodies, and God will renew creation. Christian hope is more than souls floating somewhere forever; it is resurrection life in a world made new.

Christians also believe that every person will answer to God. Our relationship with Jesus matters. Salvation is received through God’s grace rather than earned by doing enough good things. Jesus offers forgiveness, life with God now and life with him beyond death.

When someone dies, Christians still grieve. Faith does not remove the ache of losing someone or answer every question about where they are. We grieve with hope because Jesus has defeated death and promises a future with no more death, sorrow, crying or pain.
