Christians believe heaven is real, but the Bible’s final hope is richer than people floating on clouds. Jesus rose bodily from death, and the Christian promise is resurrection and a renewed creation where God lives with his people. Death is real and painful right now, but it is not the end of the story.
The New Testament speaks of those who die trusting Jesus as being with him. That means Christian hope is first about the presence of Jesus, not a detailed map of the next life. He is the one who has gone through death and come out the other side, and he promises life to those who trust him.
Will we see our loved ones again? The Bible does not answer every question we have, but it gives good reason to hope for recognition, relationship and reunion among God’s renewed people. We should not promise details Scripture does not give, or pretend grief is easy.
At The Lakes Church we hold grief and hope together. We mourn people we miss, we support one another, and we trust the risen Jesus with those we love and with our own future. Christian hope says that God will one day wipe our tears away.
