What does the Bible say about sex, relationships and marriage?

The Bible treats sex as a good gift from God, not something dirty or embarrassing. Sexual intimacy can join bodies, emotions and lives in a powerful way, which is why it deserves care rather than casual use. The Bible also values affection, friendship, family and singleness. A full human life is not limited to marriage or sex.

At The Lakes Church we teach that sexual intimacy belongs within marriage. We know Christians reach different conclusions about sexuality, and that churches have often spoken or acted in ways that wounded people. Every person should be treated with dignity, listened to carefully and welcomed into honest conversation.

Healthy relationships require consent, faithfulness, mutual service, truth and safety. Marriage never gives one person permission to pressure, control or harm another. Nobody should be told to remain in danger to preserve a relationship. If there is abuse or coercion, seek safe, specialist support.

All of us bring desire, choices, wounds and regrets into our relationships. Following Jesus means bringing our whole life, including our sexuality, under his leadership. It also means receiving grace. Past decisions, sexual shame or relationship failure do not put anybody beyond the forgiveness and new life Jesus offers.
