Does God love me?

Yes. God loves you. His love is not based on your performance, usefulness, background or ability to keep everything together. The Bible says God loved us while we were still far from him, and he showed that love by sending Jesus.

God’s love is active. He chooses, welcomes, forgives and adopts people into his family through Jesus. You do not stay loved by behaving perfectly. Romans 8 says that trouble, failure, fear, suffering, death and every power in creation are unable to separate us from God’s love in Christ.

There may be times when you do not feel loved by God. Pain, disappointment and unanswered prayer can make God seem distant. Those experiences are real, but they are not proof that God has stopped loving you. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection are the clearest place to see how far God’s love goes.

At The Lakes Church, we believe God’s love is something you can receive and grow to trust. You might begin with a short prayer: ‘God, help me know that your love includes me.’ Read Romans 8 or one of the stories of Jesus, and notice how he treats people who feel forgotten, ashamed or left out.
