The Holy Spirit is God, not an impersonal force or a religious feeling. Christians speak about one God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Spirit is present throughout the Bible, active in creation, in the life of Jesus and in the lives of people who follow him.
Jesus described the Holy Spirit as another Helper or Advocate who would be with his followers. The Spirit makes Jesus known, brings new life, gives peace, helps us pray and forms the character of Jesus in us. The Spirit also gives courage and gifts so the church can love people and continue Jesus’ work.
When someone trusts Jesus, they are not left alone. God’s Spirit lives with them and in them. People experience that presence differently. It may be quiet or powerful, emotional or almost unnoticed. A dramatic experience is not proof that someone has more of God than another Christian.
At The Lakes Church, we make room for the Holy Spirit to move, speak and act. We expect the Spirit’s work to produce love, truth, freedom, courage and service, not spiritual status, control or pressure.
