Baptism is a public way of saying that you trust Jesus and intend to follow him. A person is lowered under water and raised again, picturing Jesus’ death and resurrection, the washing away of sin and the beginning of a new life with him.
At The Lakes Church we teach and practise the baptism of believers by immersion. We do not believe the water earns God’s acceptance. Salvation is God’s gift, received through faith in Jesus. Baptism gives that faith a physical, memorable expression and identifies you openly with Jesus and his church.
Jesus was baptised, told his followers to baptise new disciples, and the first Christians were baptised when they responded to him. If you have decided to follow Jesus and have not been baptised, we encourage you to take this step. You do not need to be a mature or perfect Christian to be baptised.
Different Christian traditions understand the timing and form of baptism differently, including churches that baptise infants. We respect those differences. If you were baptised earlier, or you are unsure whether you are ready, talk it through with one of our pastors rather than feeling pressured into a quick decision.
