Yes, we believe God still heals people today. Jesus healed people with compassion, and his healings showed something important about who he is: God’s promised King, bringing signs of the world made whole. That gives us good reason to pray for healing and to trust that God is able to act.
But prayer is not a technique, and healing is not something we can demand or guarantee. At The Lakes Church we know the pain of prayers that have not been answered in the way we hoped. A person who remains sick has not failed at faith, and nobody should be blamed for not being healed.
We pray, and we also welcome the help God gives through doctors, medication, counsellors and other health professionals. Seeking treatment is not a lack of faith. Often God’s care reaches us through ordinary people, good medicine and the strength to keep going.
Christian hope is bigger than getting every healing we want now. Jesus’ resurrection promises that sickness, pain and death will not have the final word. We can ask boldly, receive help gratefully, and hold on to Jesus when the answer is not what we wanted.
