What God can do with a family scandal

What God can do with a family scandal

Geoff finished our series, looking at how God wants to partner with us to redeem our messes, mistakes and failures.

Here is a copy of the prayer Geoff prayed for Australia Day:

Jesus, we thank you for this beautiful country you created. We recognise you as the creator, sustainer and redeemer of ALL people. Thank you that you came to us in humility and love, as God with us. Thank you for the forgiveness and new life you offer to each person.

Before you we recognise the traditional custodians of our land, the elders past, present and emerging, who hold the memories, traditions and hopes of their people.

We place before you the pain of losing land, language, culture and family that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families have experienced. We ask that you would redeem our mess and our mistakes as a nation.

We ask for your forgiveness for our own mistakes.

We ask for your healing for our own hurts.

We are grateful today for the nation we share, we grieve the costs of that sharing, and we ask for your help to continue towards justice and partnership together.

In everything we do as Christians, may we reflect the heart and attitude of you, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

This message is part of the series Fresh Start: how to follow God through life’s transitions

This time of year is often a time of transitions. Some things end and other things begin, in small ways or big ways. We aren’t always in control over these transitions, but we can choose how we will act and respond. The story of Ruth in the Old Testament shows us how Ruth and her family followed God in their unexpected fresh starts. Over four weeks we are going to tell the story of Ruth, picking up on ideas and things God teaches us to do when we are facing a fresh start. We’ll talk about the importance of finding good people, working hard, being generous and acting with integrity. All found in an amazing story of a lady named Ruth, and all having really practical impact for us today in our fresh starts and transitions.
