Hi, we think that James was Jesus’ brother because of a few other references in the New Testament. For example:
Mark 6:3, “Then they scoffed, “He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.”
Galatians 1:19, “The only other apostle I met at that time was James, the Lord’s brother.”
Mary was Jesus’ earthly mother, and she was married to Joseph. So we think that Jesus had half-brothers named James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon.
