Freedom to stop judging people

There is no shame in following Jesus because he will never let you down. Accepting God’s grace is for everyone. I need him as much as you do. The point of Paul pointing out God’s judgement about sin is not to convict the obvious sinners, but to get us off our high horses of thinking we are better than others. In this series we invite you to take a ’S.O.A.P.’ journal and dig deeper into Romans during the week. SOAP…

The gift of courage

At Christmas time we often exchange gifts that don’t last. They are eaten up, worn out and used, sometimes even before the end of Christmas Day. In the first Christmas story we discover gifts that keep on giving. Not the gold, frankincense and myrrh, but other actions and attitudes that resound through the centuries. The shepherds gave the gift of curiosity, Mary and Joseph gave the gift of courage and God gave the gift of love in sending his Son.…

Have Compassion (Putting your faith into action)

If we resist putting our faith into action, what is going on in our hearts? How do we develop compassion for those outside our own circle? How do we break down the walls that prevent us from loving others wholeheartedly? Having faith in Jesus naturally leads to a concern for others. Not just others in the church, but all people. The Apostle Paul wrote that we should have the same attitude that Jesus had – not just looking out for…

Take Action (Putting your faith into action)

Jesus came to open eyes, free captives and bring light to those in darkness. What is our active role in this ministry of Christ? When we see need in the world, what action can we take? How does what we believe impact whether we help or ignore the people around us? Having faith in Jesus naturally leads to a concern for others. Not just others in the church, but all people. The Apostle Paul wrote that we should have the…

Sit Beside (Putting your faith into action)

Time is a great gift. We see that Jesus would often stop and have conversations with people. He gave them time in a busy schedule. He went into the homes of those who were cast out and had meals with those whom society wouldn’t touch. This gift of time radically transformed lives. How can we sit beside people today? How do we respond when those we sit beside live in sin? Having faith in Jesus naturally leads to a concern…
