Serving the Community

Serving the Community

Serve

God has a place for you here, to be a part of what he is doing through our church to impact the world.

Joining a serving team is one of the most important things you’ll do as a part of The Lakes Church family. You’ll find a place to stretch and grow and see for yourself that together we are changing lives.

You can express interest in serving here.

Food

People often come to the church office in need of food and support. You can help meet this need by bringing non-perishable food items, ready for us to give. Maybe you’d like to buy some extras during your weekly shop and bring them to the office during the week or to the info desk on a Sunday.

If you need some food for yourself or your family, come and see us and we’ll do our best to help you!

Counselling

We offer referrals to professional counselling with trained Christian counsellors.  Please contact us to arrange an appointment.

Cairns Street Chaplains

A number of people from The Lakes Church are involved with Cairns Street Chaplains, who provide basic first aid and practical care for alcohol and drug intoxicated and other vulnerable people, working alongside security and emergency service providers on Friday and Saturday nights in the Cairns night club precinct. Cairns to the Cape

We partner with Churches of Christ in Queensland for a Christmas appeal called Cairns to the Cape. We help bring joy to children, young people, foster and kinship carers across Cape York at Christmas time.

Compassion

We have a strong connection with Compassion Australia, and there are many people in our church who sponsor children through Compassion.  As a church we have a partnership with some Compassion projects in Cebu, Philippines.

Partners in mission

We partner with individuals, families and organisations who are called by Jesus to represent him in a particular way or to a particular group of people. We are committed to encouraging, praying for and supporting our partners in mission locally and across the world.

Each year we set aside money given to the church to pass on to our partners in mission. Here are some examples of the difference we’ve made in the past year:

  • $2,000 enabled Mission Aviation Fellowship to employ and train local staff in Timor Leste.
  • $1,000 bought Religious Instruction resources for schools.
  • $1,000 went towards upgraded communications equipment for Cairns Street Chaplains.
  • $12,000 supported chaplaincy programs in our local state primary and state high schools.
